II. OVERVIEW
What is CALMINDER? CALMINDER is an excellent calender-reminder
program that can be applied to virtually everyone who has a IBM/Compatible
computer! Its unique feature allows one to add in reminders that can be
a one-time event, yearly, monthly, weekly, or daily so that CALMINDER
can fill in all of one's needs.
CALMINDER has the ability to remind you anytime on the 'reminders'
that are due for the present day.
CALMINDER can create instant reports and printouts of reminders
for ANY day, for ANY length of time. Want to know what your reminders
are for next month starting on the 1st to the 23rd? CALMINDER can tell
you that!
It is a user-friendly, mouse-driven, and colorful menu program
that can give anyone a perfect and powerful tool to organize their
busy life!
-------------------------------------------
III. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
To use CALMINDER, you need these minimal requirements:
1. IBM/IBM-Compatible computer
2. EGA/VGA monitor
3. 512k RAM of memory
4. Microsoft mouse ( NOT required )
5. Printer ( NOT required )
-------------------------------------------
IV. "CALMINDER" FILES
CALMINDER is divided up into two files with the extension
*.exe . The major file is "REMINDER.EXE" which is the main program
that allows the user to add, delete, view, and produce a query of
reminders. The other file is called "CHECKER.EXE" that does the
checking for any reminders for the current day.
EGA/VGA.BGI is a graphic driver used to display graphics
in CALMINDER. You do not need to touch it.
OUTFILE is a text file that stores all of your 'reminders'.
Users with enough computer experience can learn how to insert
reminders directly to OUTFILE. It is not neccessary since there is ADD
option in the main program , REMINDER but if interested, let me know and
I'll send you directions on how to insert reminders 'directly' to the
OUTFILE without disrupting CALMINDER.
*** WARNING *** Unknowledgeable tampering with the OUTFILE can
cause unexpected errors from REMINDER and CHECKER.
If you are not sure where to place your REMIDER files, place ALL
the files in a new directory called REMIND. ( EXAMPLE - C:\REMIND\<files> )
=================================================
** NOTICE **
ALWAYS have ALL the files together in one directory.
If NOT, REMINDER and CHECKER will NOT work

V. STARTING UP THE MAIN MENU
To start the main menu program, REMINDER, type in
"REMINDER" at the DOS prompt. When you get to the Main Menu, you
will see SIX options: Add, Delete, View, Query, Help, and Quit.
From here, I'll explain on what each option can do and how to use it.
------------------------------------------------
VI. MENU OPTIONS
A. ADD
This is where you can add in your reminders. Your 'reminder'
can be anything you want it to be - appointments, birthdays, anniversaries,
notes, school exams, business meetings, holidays, <anything> ...!
The ADD option is divided up into five categories: ONE-TIME,
YEARLY, MONTHLY, WEEKLY, and DAILY.
1) ONE-TIME : Reminders that occur once and only once would
go into this category.
Examples: meetings, quizzes/exams, vacations,
appointements.
2) YEARLY : Reminders that occur once a year would go here.
Examples: holidays, birthdays, anniversaries, or
a visit to the dentist! (NOT)
3) MONTLY : Reminders that occur once a month would fit here.
Examples: club meetings, 'pay bills'.
4) WEEKLY : Reminders that occur once a week would enter here.
Examples: weekly meetings, shopping, cleaning tasks.
5) DAILY : Reminders that occur everyday.
Examples: Anything you do on a daily basis.
When you highlight the category that you want, press <ENTER>.
You'll get an input screen. For all the categories except WEEKLY and
DAILY, you'll need to provide a valid date and of course, your 'reminder'.
For WEEKLY, you'll need to type in the day of the week (Monday..Sunday).
Watch your spelling! For DAILY, all you need to do is type in your
'reminder'.
When you are in the input screen, press
[ENTER] to toggle the cursor between the date and your 'reminder'.
[F10] to SAVE and RETURN back to Main Menu.
[ESC] to abort.
Aborting will NOT save your current entry.
B. DELETE
This allows you to delete any reminders you do not need anymore.
Highlight the category your 'reminder' is in, and you will receive a
menu list of your 'reminders' ready to be deleted. Highlight the one to
be erased and press <ENTER>. This is will automatically delete it and return
you back to Main Menu.
C. VIEW
This option enables you to look at your 'reminders' from
any category they belong to. At the 'view' screen, you'll be prompted
to do a printout of the list of the 'entries' shown on the screen. Press
'Y' if you want a hardcopy. Otherwise, press 'N' to continue on 'viewing'.
D. QUERY
This terrific option allows you to do a 'reminder' forecast.
When you choose this option, you'll enter into the input screen. The
input screen will ask you for TWO things. The first is the starting
date which needs to be a valid format - MM/DD/YYYY . Notice that the
year format needs to have 4 digits - XXXX. (EXAMPLE: 1992) The second
is the number of days into query. The default number is '1' which means
just for one day (same day).
Press [F10] to SAVE and CONTINUE.
PRESS [ESC] to ABORT and RETURN to back to MAIN MENU.
When you choose [F10], you will receive a menu asking for the
output. Choose SCREEN if you want the report to appear on the screen.
Choose PRINTER if you want a printout of the report. Make sure your
printer is ready to print.
E. HELP
This option will give you a 'quick' help screen, explaining
what each menu option does.
F. QUIT
Choosing this will exit you out of REMINDER and back to DOS.
----------------------------------------------------------
VII. "CHECKER" PROGRAM
The "CHECKER" program is responsible for checking for any
'reminder' for the present day. To have your computer automatically
remind you everytime you boot up, you can add "CHECKER.EXE" in your
AUTOEXEC.BAT. Here are the general steps to make it work:
1) Run any editor program and load in "AUTOEXEC.BAT".
2) Find the line the begins with "PATH". That is your
path statement. At the end of the path statement, type
in the full directory of where your CHECKER program is
located at. ( EXAMPLE - PATH c:\; c:\****; <FULL DIRECTORY> )
Check your MS-DOS manual for more information.
3) Then on the next line after the path statement, type in
"CHECKER".
4) Save it from your editor program and exit to DOS.
It is not required for you to install CHECKER in your
AUTOEXEC.BAT but you will not receive 'automatic' reminders on your
screen whenever you boot up or turn on your computer.
To run CHECKER anytime, go to your directory where all of the
CALMINDER files are stored at and type in "CHECKER" at the DOS prompt.
Then, the program will display all the reminders due for that day!
